RE: RV Stolen From Forest River - help please

Sorry to hear about your situation, but want to thank you for posting it. Currently researching Toy Haulers and had considered a Forest River product and recently looked at one. They are scratched off my list for good. I currently have a Jayco and will now consider the Jayco Octane Toy Hauler. I hope that everything turns out OK for you and your family. penokee

RE: Best ATV to buy new?

We have 5 Honda ATVs in the family and slant toward them because of quality of machine and Dealers. Three of our ATVs are Honda Foreman and as someone mentioned earlier, the older fulltime 4 wheel drive is a little harder on the arms and shoulders. We have 2 - 2007 Honda Foreman and with the selector lever for 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive they are more versatile. If you are looking for a work horse, the used one would be a good machine, but wouldn't recommend it for Trail Riding. When out on Public Land, we make a point of picking up trash when we see it. If more of us would do that, I believe we could eventually overcome the bad image that 4 wheeling has in some areas. Ride safe and have fun. penokee

RE: Jayco Octane

Mark - Never stop asking for help on this Board. It's loaded with Good Fellow Rvers, willing to help. I ask quite often and contribute if I feel my comments are pertinent. I have a 2001 Chev 2500HD and it handles my Jayco 20BH with no problem, plus I occassionly pull a 3000# trailer with an 8000# crawler and don't have power problems with the Vortec 6000. I purchased a 2007 2500HD with Duramax/Allison, but now only use it for longer trips; otherwise use the gasser locally. Have been getting prices on the Jayco Octane as we have 2 Honda ATVs that we want to take with us. I looked at a lot of other Toy-haulers at RV shows in Arizona last winter/spring, but keep coming back to the Octane - I think it's the best buy for the buck. Have fun in your travels. penokee and otto:)

RE: Jayco Octane ZX vs Wildwood XL Lite Toy Hauler

Thanks for all the comments. I was leaning towards the Jayco Octane, and that's the way I plan to go. penokee:)

RE: Always be alert when you stop at a highway rest area

I have a large dog (big baby of a Lab, but punks don't know that) and keep her huge dishes outside the RV, seems like almost everyone is leery of a big dog. Also have a recording of the meanest/nastiest dog growling you ever want to hear - just turn it on if someone's outside the RV at night. Final backup is a .357 magnum with laser sights (legally carried). I'm not about to let the scum keep me from traveling and enjoying this beautiful country of ours. Enjoy. penokee:)

Jayco Octane ZX vs Wildwood XL Lite Toy Hauler

Narrowing my Toy Hauler search down to a Jayco Octane ZX (26Y) vs a Forest River Wildwood XL Lite Toy hauler (T27FBSRV). Appreciate any and all comments on quality, etc. Currently have a Jayco BH22, so familiar with their products, but have no knowledge/experience with Forest River products. penokee, otto and honey:@

RE: ATV Operation in Arizona

Thanks for all the comments. Most of my riding is in the Tonto NF. I also have an Arizona address, so appears that I will have to contact a State Farm Ins. Agent in Arizona and have him issue me a policy. Still don't understand why they can't accept my policy written in Michigan, but learned long ago to go along with the people that have the clout if it's neccessary to get what you want/need. penokee, otto and pluto:)

ATV Operation in Arizona

Having problems with the AZ MVD concerning Liability Ins. for my Honda ATV. I'm a resident of Michigan, but spend approx. 6 months in Arizona each year. Registered my ATV in AZ, so it would be Road legal, but they refuse to accept my State Farm Ins. policy issued by my agent in Michigan. Has anyone run into a similar situation, and if so, is it possible to operate your ATV in AZ if it isn't licensed in AZ? Any and all comments appreciated. Not sure if this is the correct forum, but since hauled in a Toy hauler thought it would ok. penokee, otto and pluto:?

12 volt Portable Fan

Would like to get a 12 volt portable fan that runs off a cigarette type outlet and a regular 110 outlet. Regular outlet would need the type of power reducer that's on most computer printers and other smaller electronic items. Saw a 12volt in Walmart, but it was for cigarette type outlet only. Maybe I'm looking for something that doesn't exist. penokee and otto:@

Portable generator in Toy Hauler

Looking at Toy Haulers and had questions on the Built-in Generators that come with them. 1. Can the generator be easily removed from the TH and used as a portable generator at the Cotage, Camp, etc.? 2. If they can be easily removed is it just a wire with standard plug or do you have to do extensive disconnecting of wires? 3. Does the generator run all electric appliances such as microwave, air conditioning, etc.? 4. Does anyone have a TH without the Built-in generator and just use a portable generator such as a Honda (2-2000w)? Thanks in advance for all comments. penokee:@

RE: Are we coming to the "end" of a lifestyle??

I'm surprised that no-one mentioned Coal to Liquids (CTL). Our country is the Saudi Arabia of coal. South Africa currently uses large amounts of Fischer/Traupch fuel in their ground and air fleet. Those old enough should recall that Germany ran their war machine in the final months of WWII on diesel made from coal. Our Air Force has tested several combat plane on FT Fuel and plan to have our entire Air Force fleet certified to fly on FT fuel. It follows that our Civilian Air Fleet could also operate on this FT Jet Fuel. Why hasn't something been done? The "Greens" in our country worry more about Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere then our National Defense. Making Diesel and Jet Fuel from coal would free us up of our dependence on Foreign oil (not elminate it, but reduce it to the point where we probably wouldn't have to go to war to insure a supply for our military). The states with coal: Montana, Wyoming, Kentucky, Illinois, West Virginia and others would prosper if/when this happens. Legislation is currently being introduced to rescind the clause prohibiting CTL that the "Greens" slipped into energy legislation recently. Diesel from Coal would have ony 2-3 ppm Sulphur, where the current Ultra Clean Diesel is 15 ppm and Clean Diesel (soon to be outlawed) 500ppm Sulphur. What Part of Energy Independence Don't Our elected Federal Officials understand? Oh yeah, the topic - I'm leaving AZ next week to head to TX and ultimately MI, and don't look forward to the +$4.00/gal. cost of diesel. Guess I'll have to eat lots of salted popcorn and water to keep me full - tough to keep the Duramax fed and myself:) penokee, otto and honey:B

RE: RV DIRECT trailer delivery report ... Des Moines RV

l_RV2 - Appreciate your comments. I've looked at several dozen Toy Haulers this winter, in the Mesa and Quartsite, AZ areas, and received the best price by far from RV Net. I take your comments at face value and especially the ones about uneven site, etc, as I'll be installing a Hensley Sway Control before I tow on the interstates. Purchasing from Local Dealers is fine if their price is competeitive. I've worked all of my life and still don't have extra money to give to someone who has his products marked up 50% to 100%. In my opinion that's an obscene markup/profit. As far as Warranty work from a Local Dealer, it doesn't fit into my lifestyle which includes being on the road for 6 months a year, a thousand or more miles away from the "Local Dealer". Problems usually arise when I'm on the road, not when the RV is back home near the Local Dealer. The Local Dealer I purchased my current TT from, was one of the nastiest, rude, crude, etc. Businessman/People I've ever delt with. I didn't know this at first, as I worked with a salesman who was top notch. I wouldn't go back to that Dealer if he set up a business next door to me and gave me a free TT. (Well, maybe if it was free :B) penokee and OTTO:)

RE: Hensley and Insurance

I've read where a Hensley Tow bar (The heavey bar that attaches to the Tow Vheicle) was stolen, so usually secure my tow bar by storing it in the TT or Tow Vehicle, when staying in a RV Park. Would be impossible to tow your trailer if this bar was stolen. Sad state of affairs when one has to do this. Have been towing with my Hensley for 2 years (12,000 mi.) and would never be without one. Enjoy your travels. penokee and otto:)

RE: 55mph national speed limit

I have to laugh to myself, when drivers are traveling 15 to 20 mph over the speed limit, only to get home and read their paper or have a beer.I clearly recall the previou 55mph speed limit - driving was more relaxing, contrary to comments on this thread, fatalities went down, not up - Google up the accident stats for each year, to verify this. I recently came on 2 accidents that were caused by excssive speed on a 4 lane mountain highway in Arizona. If they are still living, they most likely wish they had been traveling somewhat slower. Posted speeds aren't someone's wild idea. I've designed roads/highways for many years and speed limits are (should be) based on vertical and horizontal criteria. Try taking a horizontal curve at 70 mph when it's posted at 50 mph and you are close to having the horizontal component of force push you to the outside of the curve - add a wet surface and you may experience how your air bags work. I travel 60 mph when towing my TT - works for me. The drivers that are exceeding the posted speed limit by more then 15 mph may want to learn the words and tune for "Nearer My God To Me":B penokee and otto:)

RE: To slide or Not slide????

No Slides for me. I try to be outside as much as possible: hiking, exploring, rock hounding, fishing, hunting, etc., so just need a secure place to sleep, cook, etc. But then I've been rving alone with my dog. Another Great thing about this country, you can pretty much do what you want, as long as it's legal. No right or wrong here, just personal preference. penokee and otto:) ps: pick up a little trash during your travels. I realize that many of us do. You'll feel better about yourself.

Thor Vortex Toy Hauler vs Thor Tahoe Toy hauler

Need help determining the difference between the Vortex and the Tahoe. Dimensions, Capacity, etc. seem to be the same. Is there something different with the frame axles, etc. All comments appreciated. penokee and otto:)
